From conversation to your project
Export meeting notes to Markdown.
A meeting note should be easy to keep, edit, and use somewhere else. Scribe exports a plain Markdown document that opens in Obsidian or any text editor.
Markdown is text with simple formatting for headings, lists, and links. It works well for project records because the document remains readable even without the app that created it. Scribe also keeps the underlying recording and transcript in ordinary folders on your Mac.
Review before you export
Start with a saved meeting in Scribe. If you are new to the app, follow the Mac meeting-recording guide first. Let local transcription finish, then check names, dates, decisions, and commitments against the recording. Use Name speakers to confirm who spoke when labels need clarification.
Generated summaries and detailed Meeting Notes require a capable local or remote model connection. They are separate from transcription, which can run with an installed speech model alone. If detailed notes are missing from an older meeting, choose Regenerate to add meeting notes after configuring a model. The offline transcription guide explains the local-model choices.
Use Edit summary or Edit notes to correct names, facts, or wording directly. These edits do not call an AI model and are kept when analysis is regenerated. Add your own context with Add note: what you agreed to do, an unanswered question, or a detail that should accompany the transcript.
Save a Markdown copy
- Open the meeting. Give it a clear title if needed, using Rename Meeting in the actions menu.
- Open More meeting actions. This is the ellipsis menu beside the meeting controls.
- Choose Export Markdown… Scribe opens a save dialog with the meeting title as the proposed filename.
- Choose a destination and save. Save the
.mdfile in a project folder, an Obsidian vault, or another location you manage. - Open the exported note. Check the content and formatting before sharing it. Your summary and Meeting Notes edits are reflected in the export.
The note can contain the summary, decisions, action items, open questions, detailed Meeting Notes, and your own notes when those are available. Exporting does not create missing analysis. If you need just one part, Copy summary copies the summary, decisions, actions, and open questions; Copy notes copies detailed Meeting Notes with the meeting title.
Bring the note into your own system
For Obsidian, save or move the exported .md file into your vault and open it there. You can then add your own project links, tags, and follow-up context. Other Markdown editors can open the same file. No special Scribe plugin is required to read ordinary Markdown.
Choose filenames that are easy to distinguish later, such as a meeting date followed by a project and topic. Keep action items close to the place where you track work. An export is a copy taken at that moment; later edits in Scribe or your editor do not automatically update the other copy. Re-export deliberately when you need a newer version.
Keep the transcript and audio together
A Markdown export is a note, not a backup of the full meeting. Use More meeting actions → Reveal in Finder to find the original folder. The default location is ~/Recordings. It includes separate microphone and system-audio recordings, a readable transcript.md, and the meeting’s supporting files.
Use Open transcript when you need the complete readable transcript rather than the shorter note. Keep a separate backup of important meeting folders if you need to preserve the audio and metadata. Before sending a note or moving it into a shared vault, review it for information the recipient should not receive.
