This guide covers Scribe for iPhone, currently in development. Features may change before release. For help with the Mac app, start with the Mac recording and setup guide, browse the Mac guides, or use the same support email. The Mac documentation has more technical details.
Get started on iPhone
- Start a recording, import audio, or begin with a written note. Ask permission before recording other people.
- Open Settings → Local transcription and download the selected model. The first download needs internet and enough free storage.
- Start transcription and keep Scribe open for uninterrupted processing. Once installed, the model processes audio on your iPhone.
- Review the transcript and check important details against the recording. Transcripts, highlights, and suggested actions can contain errors.
- Export a conversation backup to keep a separate copy. To restore one, use Import in the library.
Common questions
Does Scribe work offline?
Recording, written notes, playback, search, and installed-model transcription run on your device. Model downloads and App Store transactions need an internet connection. Cloud folders and sharing destinations depend on the services you choose. Any purchase terms will be shown before you buy.
Can it record phone calls or audio from other apps?
Scribe for iPhone records the microphone. It does not capture telephone calls or audio inside other apps. Calls, disconnected microphones, and system interruptions can stop recording; Scribe keeps the audio captured so far.
Why did transcription or a download pause?
Keep Scribe open during model downloads and transcription. iOS can suspend processing when you leave the app. Return to Scribe to resume unfinished transcription. For long recordings, check available storage and let the phone cool if it becomes hot.
Which languages are supported?
The default transcription model is English. Compact English and multilingual choices are marked preview. Their accuracy and device performance may vary; check important words against your audio.
Do I need Apple Intelligence?
No. Recording and installed-model transcription do not require Apple Intelligence. On supported devices, Apple’s on-device Foundation Models can help select highlight passages from a transcript.
How do I recover a deleted conversation?
Open Settings → Your files → Recently Deleted to restore it. Permanently deleted conversations can only be recovered from a separate backup you kept. Deleting the app also removes its local app data.
How do I move work between iPhone and Mac?
Choose a shared folder in Settings → Phone and Mac continuity, then tap Sync now. A cloud-backed folder uses that provider’s service. Conflicting edits are preserved as copies and deletions stay local. Sync is not a substitute for an independent backup.
How do I get help with an App Store purchase?
Contact us with a description of the issue; do not send payment-card details. Apple handles App Store payments and refund requests through Report a Problem. Any available purchase or restoration options appear in Scribe’s settings. Pricing and launch availability will be announced separately.
Report a problem
If you are invited to a TestFlight beta, you can use TestFlight → Scribe → Send Beta Feedback. You can also email us. The public issue tracker is available for non-confidential reports; anything posted there is public.
